Fabric is getting traction in the corporate world, with more and more companies deploying Fabric-based projects and PoCs. PoCs are great to validate use cases and see the benefits of blockchain technology, but the problem comes when we want to move these validated PoCs into production. One of the main limitations we found at a big company such as Telefónica to get our PoCs into production is the lack of performance best practices. We want to design systems capable of scaling in the future.

After an extensive work of analysis, we managed to put together a set of performance best practices for Fabric-based systems to consider when moving into production. The aim of this talk is to share with the community the results of our work and open a discussion about open challenges to enhance the transition of Fabric-based systems from development to production. Thus, in this talk we will answer common performance questions such as:

*What configurations should I fine-tune to get the most out of my infrastructure?
*What is the best physical infrastructure? How much CPU or RAM should my nodes have?
*How many peers, endorsers and orderering nodes do I need?
*CouchDB or LevelDB?
*How should I design endorsement policies so that they don’t harm performance?
*Golang or Nodejs chaincodes?
*Does the SDK matters for performance?
*Does my chaincode design matters for performance? Are there different design patterns to better the overall performance of the system?
*Can I profile my chaincodes? How should I do it?

After answering these questions (and more), and sharing our best practices, we will have a common layered framework in the community to start discussing about performance limitations in order to enhance it together and get Fabric ready for production.
